Institution: Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (CNAM), Paris, France
Laboratory: CEDRIC – LAETITIA Group (Signal Processing and Communications)
Contract Duration: 18 months
Starting Date: Preferably from Autumn 2025
Scientific and Project Context
This postdoctoral position is offered within the national research program PEPR-5G, and more specifically the PC3 NF-PERSEUS project, which targets the development of energy- and spectrum-efficient wireless technologies in the sub-7GHz band for future B5G/6G networks.
The selected candidate will contribute to Work Package 3.2, which focuses on the design and evaluation of advanced precoding and decoding techniques for downlink transmission in Cell-Free Massive MIMO (CF-mMIMO) systems. These systems promise to overcome current limits of cellular networks by distributing antennas throughout the coverage area and removing cell boundaries.
The research will tackle real-world challenges such as hardware impairments, limited feedback, and the need for energy-efficient, scalable transmission schemes.
Mission and responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Design novel precoding/decoding strategies tailored to the distributed nature of CF-mMIMO
- Develop algorithms that are robust to hardware impairments (e.g., quantization, nonlinearities, limited CSI);
- Analyze the energy/spectral efficiency trade-offs in realistic deployment scenarios;
- Contribute to simulation environments, algorithm benchmarking, and possibly proof-of-concept validations;
- Interact with academic and industrial partners involved in PEPR-5G;
- Disseminate research through high-impact publications and presentations.
Candidate Profile
Essential qualifications:
- A PhD in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Applied Mathematics, or a related field;
- Solid expertise in wireless communication systems, multi-user MIMO, and signal processing;
- Excellent skills in MATLAB, Python, or C/C++;
- Good communication skills and fluency in English (spoken and written).
Additional assets:
- Experience with cell-free or distributed MIMO, hardware-aware communications, or energy-efficient transmission techniques;
- Familiarity with limited feedback systems, channel modeling, or hybrid analog/digital precoding;
- Interest in AI-driven or learning-based signal processing methods is appreciated.
Working Environment
The postdoctoral researcher will join the CNAM’s CEDRIC laboratory, a dynamic research environment with strong expertise in physical layer design, multi-antenna techniques, and waveform development. The candidate will benefit from close collaboration with other PEPR-5G partners and will be encouraged to participate in national and international dissemination activities.
Application Procedure
Applicants are invited to submit the following materials:
- A detailed CV including contact information for two academic references;
- A cover letter outlining research experience, interests, and motivation for this position;
- Up to two representative publications;
- A copy of the PhD diploma (or proof of expected defense date if applicable).
