Title: Post‑Doctoral Researcher – Evaluating Lung Function and Dynamics using Deep Learning

Keywords: Machine Learning, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Registration, Segmentation, Biomarker Discovery, Lung Dynamics, Respiratory Function

Duration: 18 months

Start Date: February 2026 (flexible)

Institution: Université Paris-Saclay

Host Laboratory: Laboratoire d’imagerie médicale multimodale (BioMaps)

Collaboration: V|LF Spiro 3D European consortium, MICS Centrale-Supélec

Description: The European V|LF Spiro 3D consortium seeks to transform pulmonary function assessment by characterizing lung structure and dynamics through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). As a post‑doctoral researcher, you will operate within a highly interdisciplinary environment that brings together clinicians, radiologists, physicists, and data scientists.

Your core mission is to conceive and embed state‑of‑the‑art machine‑learning techniques into the 3D MR spirometry workflow. This involves redesigning each stage of the current image processing pipeline – from segmentation to biomarker discovery- in order to advance the 3D spirometry technique integration into the clinical workflow.

The role sits at the interface of methodology development and direct clinical application. You will:

  • Design and implement novel deep‑learning architectures tailored to dynamic lung MRI data.
  • Leverage a substantial database of dynamic pulmonary MRIs acquired within the consortium to train and validate the implemented models

Through this work you will contribute to tangible health‑care advancements, gain hands‑on experience in translational research, and explore cutting‑edge applications of deep learning in medical imaging. This position provides a valuable chance to contribute to advances in lung diagnostics.

Qualifications:

  • Strong machine‑learning background
  • Excellent programming skills
  • Experience with image processing
  • Interest in clinical challenges and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with medical imaging is not mandatory but beneficial
